On Monday night, I begun the task of reading it at roughly 8o clock in the evening and then by the time I put it down (11 o clock),I had already stormed through a good 58% of it. (Yes I'm a kindle lover.)
What drew it to me initially was the many recommendations I heard and with only that, my curiosity begin to explode with questions 'What is this bloody book about?'
Taking to the web, I found this small synopsis
'Set in a post-apocalyptic world, young Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape.'
Now for me this wasn't quite enough, so I continued to search for a much larger summary (being careful that I don't spoil any plot twists) and came upon this.
'Thomas wakes up in an elevator, remembering nothing but his own name. He emerges into a world of about 60 teen boys who have learned to survive in a completely enclosed environment, subsisting on their own agriculture and supplies. A new boy arrives every 30 days. The original group has been in "The Glade" for two years, trying to find a way to escape through the Maze that surrounds their living space. They have begun to give up hope. Then a comatose girl arrives with a strange note, and their world begins to change. There are some great, fast-paced action scenes, particularly those involving the nightmarish Grievers who plague the boys.'
Now apart from the description having some words which I was completely puzzled by purely because they lacked definition in my mind, my curiosity burned a little a bright.
I can certainly confirm that The Maze Runner was definitely a page turner, the author James intelligently placed a significant amount of cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, making it impossible for me to put down.
When I had initially began reading the book, I set out a basic plot of how I assumed it would play out but constantly I was surprised with how it ended. It was incredibly strange but yet very likeable. It is an entirely different environment that your imagination has to bend to, making it more enjoyable.
It wasn't too long, nor was it too short, how ever I did anticipate that the book would be longer.
It's certainly an easy read, quick to pick up without any confusion and is very straight forward. Most definitely a recommendation.
I also found out the film is coming out too? There's something else I can be excited for.
R x :)
